Changes to Washington state Disabled Veteran Parking Rules Effective as of Oct. 1, 2025

Veterans with a qualifying discharge, a 70% or higher disability rating, and a federally defined service animal are now eligible for special disabled veteran parking benefits — valid for five years. Apply to receive blue placards, veteran parking plates, or a disabled veteran tab and always keep your veteran with disabilities parking privilege ID with you. This is a meaningful step toward honoring service and ensuring accessibility.

How to apply:

  • Complete the Disabled Parking Application for Veterans.
  • Include a letter from the U.S. Armed Forces or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs showing a 70% or higher disability rating.
  • Bring documents and fees to a vehicle licensing office or mail them to Department of Licensing, PO Box 9043, Olympia, WA 98507.
  • Expect placards, plates, or tabs in about seven to 10 days and the ID card in two to three weeks.
  • Parking privileges must be renewed every five years. Plates and tabs renew annually.
