Building Connection, Community, and Hope: WDVA’s SSG Fox Suicide Intervention Program
WDVA’s Staff Sergeant Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG FOX SPGP) offers connection to rural Veterans and their family members with holistic case management, direct VA interaction, and impactful resource referral for whole health.
SSG FOX works to build community around the participant and engage with direct services mirroring the available resources the VA utilizes without the long wait times after VA enrollment. Managing direct support services can be very challenging and time consuming so SSG FOX Regional Coordinators have built a network of community providers and supporters to triage more urgent situations and alleviate costly mistakes with timely action, peer to peer mentorship, and services that speak directly to the heart of Veterans.
SSG FOX focuses on both mental health and social support to enrich an environment for preventative measures to be engaged, connection to happen, and healing to take place with non-clinical methods of peer support.
Non-traditional approaches are used within the communities served as SSG Fox aims to engage with high-risk populations and connect them with available resources while addressing their social environment and incorporating community-based social support. By recognizing and expanding services within suicide prevention beyond clinical settings, SSG Fox blends efforts along with community resources to assist our Nation’s HEROES in building a “toolbox” of coping mechanisms and strategies while linking them to resources for long term life enrichment.
The SSG Fox SPGP says that ALL VETERANS MATTER and we are here to serve them!
