Community Invited to Tri-Cities Veterans Cemetery Project Town Hall
Olympia, WA – Washington Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) will host a Tri-Cities Cemetery Project Community Town Hall on March 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Richland Readiness Center, 2655 1st Street, Richland, WA. Community members, Veterans, families, and local leaders are encouraged to attend.
This town hall offers an opportunity to learn more about the future Tri-Cities State Veterans Cemetery, hear updates on the project’s progress, and share community perspectives as planning continues.
Project Background
WDVA is exploring the development of a new State Veterans Cemetery in the Tri-Cities region to expand burial options for Veterans and their families. State Veterans Cemeteries complement the Federal VA’s National Cemetery system by serving regions that do not meet the population threshold for a national cemetery.
To move this project forward, WDVA is working to identify approximately 100 acres that meet criteria established by the Federal VA State Cemetery Grants Program. Key considerations include access to public roadways, utility availability, land suitability, cultural resources, and community support.
In late 2025, WDVA began a pre-design process with Carve Architects to evaluate two potential land parcels. This phase includes assessing site constraints, land use, sustainability, hydrology, cultural resources, accessibility, security, and other site-specific factors. Cost estimates will also be developed to support future state budget requests and federal grant applications.
Pre-design work is scheduled to conclude in April 2026, with findings informing the Governor and Legislature as the project advances.
Continued Community Engagement
WDVA appreciates the strong support from Tri-Cities residents, local leaders, and state legislators. The upcoming town hall is part of the agency’s commitment to transparency and community involvement as planning continues.
