Recap - YesVets 10 Year Celebration

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington state leaders, employers, and Veteran advocates gathered on March 20 in the Capitol Building’s Columbia Room to celebrate the 10‑year anniversary of YesVets, a statewide hiring initiative that has helped thousands of Veterans find meaningful employment since 2016.

The event highlighted the program’s decade of impact, including its role in helping more than 2,500 employers hire over 9,500 Veterans across Washington.

Speakers included Veterans, employers, and state leaders who have championed the program’s mission. Featured remarks were delivered by:

  • Cami Feek, Commissioner, Employment Security Department (ESD)

  • David Puente Jr., Director, Washington Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA)

  • Cheyanne Schaefer, Board President, Washington State Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

Commissioner Feek emphasized the program’s statewide collaboration and its value to both employers and Veterans. “YesVets plays a critical role to recognize employers who hire Veterans,” Feek said. “We’re grateful for the partnership we have with these groups that help those who served find meaningful careers.”

Director Puente Jr. highlighted the program’s importance in supporting service members as they transition to civilian life. “Employment plays a vital role in a successful transition from military service and strengthens the entire military family,” he said. “Through YesVets, WDVA has also been able to help employers better understand the earned benefits and wide range of federal and state programs available to support Veterans.”

Schaefer celebrated the program’s decade of partnership with HR professionals and employers statewide. “SHRM proudly congratulates YesVets on celebrating 10 years of impact and service,” she said. “Over the past decade, YesVets has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to connecting Veterans with meaningful employment opportunities and strengthening our workforce.”
