When an author discovers the right viewpoint for telling a story, all other fictional elements tend to fall into place. Viewpoint, or narrative perspective, has an enormous effect on how a story's characters are perceived. Do you intend for readers to know what your characters are thinking? Or would your story be more compelling if you didn't reveal their thoughts, only showing their intentions through behaviors and dialogue? What if you made the reader a character? What if you told your story from the perspective of one of your minor characters, like, say, a dog?

In this open and inviting workshop, we will look at examples of how viewpoint shapes a story, drawing boundaries around a narrative that can help an author stay focused while writing. We will also do some writing of our own, helping us better understand this essential element of fiction. Open to all skill levels. Come one, come all!
