As we gather to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the trailblazing contributions of African Americans, especially those who have served our nation. Dr. King's vision serves as a powerful reminder of the incredible strength found in resilience and unity.

On MLK Jr. Day, we reflect on the progress we have made and recommit to building a future grounded in solidarity.

This day is not only a time to celebrate Dr. King's legacy but also to engage in acts of service. Let us honor his memory by giving back to our community and supporting others. Your efforts as a community make a significant impact on the lives of our Veterans, and I encourage you to extend this dedication to service in your personal lives as well.

Dr. King’s legacy calls us to celebrate the vital role African Americans have played in our history—individuals whose perseverance continues to shape our shared journey. Together, we can advance the principles of equity and inclusion, with every step forward we take as a community. I am humbled and honored to stand alongside you in this commitment.

Thank you for your dedication to these values, and for your ongoing efforts to make our workplace and society a better place for all.

V/R,

David Puente Jr.
Director, Washington Department of Veterans Affairs
