Olympia — Governor’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee Mourns the Loss of VAAC Member Jim Sims

We are saddened to share the passing of Jim Sims, an appointee on Governor’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee (VAAC), on Sunday, February 5 2023.

Jim was appointed to the VAAC on September 1, 2018 and was serving his second term representing the Military Order of the Purple Heart.  He was an active member who coordinated multiple Veteran Town Hall meetings across the state. Jim was also the past National Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a national veteran’s service organization.  He served 26 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired in 1988 as a Colonel.

“Our state has lost a true Veterans advocate in Jim Sims.  His passion for what he believed in could be seen in the many organizations he was a member of,” said David Puente, WDVA Director.  “We extend our deepest condolences to Jim’s family during this difficult time.”
