PRESS RELEASE - Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs Applauds the City of Lacey for Joining Forces to Prevent Suicide

LACEY, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Suicide Prevention Team presented the Lacey City Council with a certificate of appreciation for the City’s leadership in the fight against suicide and for setting an example for other municipalities. As part of the effort, the City has placed 988 Lifeline Emblems on City vehicles. The certificate of appreciation was presented to the Lacey City Council at its regular meeting Tuesday night.

"We commend the City of Lacey for their outstanding leadership in suicide prevention. By affixing the 988 Lifeline/There is Hope Emblems to their vehicles, they are not just raising awareness but also showing immense solidarity with our veterans, service members, and their families,” said WDVA Director David Puente. “This meaningful initiative helps generate essential funds for community-based grants focused on suicide prevention. Together, we can create a safer and more supportive environment, making a profound difference and save lives."

The City of Lacey has taken the proactive step of purchasing 200 988 Lifeline Emblems to add to their fleet of vehicles. These emblems are a symbol of support and solidarity, raising awareness about suicide prevention and crisis support in the community.

By purchasing a 988 Lifeline Emblem, Washington residents are not only showing their support but also contributing to a special fund. You can buy multiple emblems at once and save by paying the $18 fee just once. Show your support and make a meaningful impact. This fund will be used to provide community-based grants to organizations that offer suicide prevention through peer support for transitioning veterans, military members, and their families.

“We are honored to be recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs. As someone who has been personally affected by the suicide of a veteran, I stand with our veterans and members of the public by promoting this campaign and the fight against suicide. We encourage everyone to add one of these decals to their vehicle,” said Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder.

The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs is committed to building a comprehensive Suicide Prevention program that empowers communities and creates safer, more supportive environments. The goal is to ensure that individuals have access to the help they need and that every life is valued and protected.
